FACILITATOR SERVICES FOR ADOPTING PARENTS

  adopt

Adoption Paths is proud to provide ethical, personalized programs to help create loving families through affordable infant adoption.  Just as no two children are alike, there’s no “cookie cutter” approach to any adoption process.  Following is the range of services we provide, depending upon the client’s needs.

Adoption Planning

Once you’ve chosen domestic infant adoption, we help you assess your priorities to identify the type of child and birth family situations you seek, including race, ethnicity, location, medical and psychological health, and more.  We assist you with cost-saving strategies.  If you’re not already working with an adoption agency or attorney, we help you identify only those services that you need, so that you don’t pay for duplicated services from multiple providers.

Profile Development

We help you develop your parent profile (sometimes called the “Dear Birthmother letter”) to share with pregnant women who are thinking of placing their babies for adoption.  While you’re responsible for the costs and logistics of developing your printed profile and (if you choose to create one) your website, we advise you about what to write, what photographs to use, and where to place your website.

Education and Support

We prepare you for the adoption process not by providing legal advice, but by helping you navigate the emotions and logistics ahead.  Expert in topics such as transracial adoption, open adoption, attachment, and prenatal substance exposure, we acquaint you with the issues, and are well equipped to prepare you thoroughly for the adoption process and for adoptive parenting.  Our clients from Northern California may attend (without charge) a monthly support group for waiting parents that’s held in Mountain View.

Guidance About Advertising and Outreach

We don’t advertise to or locate potential birth parents.  Instead, we help our clients develop your own personal plan to reach pregnant women who are considering adoption plans.  Using our research and experience with outreach methods that are the most effective, we assess your budget, personal style and available time to recommend the methods that are the best fit for you.  Your customized outreach plan might include personal networking, print or radio advertising, and/or various web-based techniques.  Throughout your search, we help you implement, evaluate, and adjust your outreach strategies.

Birth Parent Relationship Coaching

Building and navigating the relationship with an expectant parent requires extraordinary skill and compassion during a time when you are very vulnerable as you anticipate bringing home your baby.  We help you assess how you feel about a potential match.  After you accept the match, in coordination with your adoption agency or attorney we provide guidance and support to you as you interact with the pregnant parent(s) and their family members.

Networking

We coordinate closely with adoption agencies and attorneys throughout the country, and consider ourselves to be an integral part of your professional team.  On occasion through our professional contacts, we hear directly from pregnant women who are considering adoption plans, and help them consider any of our clients who match their wishes for the child's future.

What We Don’t Do

As a registered adoption facilitator, not a licensed adoption agency, Adoption Paths does not do home studies or post placement supervision for adopting families.  We do not provide legal advice, and we do not seek, screen, advise or counsel potential birth parents.  During your adoption process, it will be necessary for you to contract with a qualified provider to assess and advise any expectant parent who considers placing her baby with you.
